Empathy, inclusion, and community-building.
The Social Awareness Set focuses specifically on helping students understand the feelings, perspectives, and experiences of others. Developing social awareness is a critical component of Social-Emotional Learning and plays a major role in reducing bullying, improving peer relationships, and building inclusive school environments. This set uses carefully selected stories and activities to help students recognize emotional cues, respect differences, and demonstrate empathy in real-life situations.
Perseverance • Confidence • Adaptability
The Growth & Resilience Set is designed to help students develop perseverance, confidence, and a healthy response to challenges. Many students struggle with frustration, fear of failure, or self-doubt, which can impact both academic performance and emotional well-being. This set introduces stories and activities that demonstrate how characters overcome obstacles, learn from mistakes, and build resilience over time.
Identity • Heritage • Belonging
The Cultural Identity & Family Set encourages students to explore themes of identity, heritage, and family values. Representation in literature plays an important role in helping students see themselves reflected in stories while also learning about cultures and traditions different from their own. This set introduces discussions about family traditions, cultural pride, and the importance of respecting diversity within communities.
A hands-on social-emotional learning game that helps students practice real-life decision-making, communication, empathy, and problem-solving in a safe, engaging classroom setting.
The SEL Bright Futures Game is designed to give students a fun, structured way to practice the same social-emotional skills they encounter in the Kimika & Kalynn: Sisters book series. Through discussion cards, scenario prompts, reflection questions, and choice-based activities, students explore how to respond to everyday challenges such as friendship conflict, peer pressure, exclusion, honesty, frustration, responsibility, and self-control.
The game gives students a chance to pause, think, explain their reasoning, listen to others, and reflect on better choices. Instead of simply being told what good character looks like, students practice it through conversation and guided play.
SEL Bright Futures Game classroom set
Students often know the “right answer” when asked about kindness, respect, or responsibility, but they need repeated practice applying those skills in real situations. The SEL Bright Futures Game turns SEL instruction into active learning by allowing students to discuss realistic choices before they face similar situations in school, at home, or with peers.
Each Kimika & Kalynn story introduces students to a relatable SEL challenge through characters, conflict, and resolution. The game allows students to revisit those same themes through new situations, helping them apply the lesson beyond the story.
Students explain their thinking, support their answers with reasons, respond to classmates, and build conversation skills. This supports classroom discussion, turn-and-talk routines, oral language development, and evidence-based response habits.
Counselors, teachers, and interventionists can use the game with small groups to target specific needs such as peer conflict, emotional regulation, confidence, empathy, or responsible choices. It works well as a Tier 1 classroom activity or a Tier 2 small-group support.
Students learn best when they can connect ideas to examples. The game turns abstract SEL concepts into clear choices, short scenarios, and guided reflection, making the learning easier to understand and remember.
